DryAdapt

There are many forms and levels of shifting dearies. Dry adapt is an easier one, one that even the Mer can do. You simply focus your ShifterSelf? to breathe air instead of water; now you're a Mer who can live out of deep.

Just be cautious, dry adapt won't give you legs. If you're washed ashore you'll have a long crawl back.

We Selkie reverse dry adapt to breathe water so as to stay deep as long as we like.

Adapting to the dry in this way requires a connection to one's ShifterSelf?, and not everyone has that. Those without can be trained to use a relic to focus or an air gill as a substitute, though it's not indefinite and loss of the item signals trouble.
