A brief scene with Githseme

Before Githseme was the most terrifying place in the sea.

The Orca's giant OrboLanterns cut the inky pitch to reveal a colossal jagged cave that rested near the top of a bottomless trench. Nested it around it were clusters of huge, writhing tentacles; A dozen of them, each large enough to drag a WinderWave away. A sickly chorus of one voice, overlapped with itself 13 times echoed throughout. The words were gibberish but the tune pulled at the mind.

Githseme leaned on her ship's wheel for strength, steeled herself and turned to her crew. She found them staring at the scene and her in fear, greif and disbelief.

"Mum, don't do this." a Selkie begged. "Please, let's turn the Orca around, Phebe and Mathias are on the Glitteringmile. You'll see your grand kids, surely that's better than this?"

Githseme pulled her daughter into a tight hug and stroked her hair while Wen sobbed and pleaded. The old pirate shot a steely glance at the rest of her crew.

"Mark me dearies, when I'm gone Wen's in charge, even if she wants to ply you lot into an honest trade. Back talk her once and my ghost will take revenge on you all on VentherNight."

"Aye, aye." They responded.

The old Selkie pushed Wen off of her into the hands of her first mate.

"Mum! No, don't! Please."

Githseme seized her SharkSaber and turned her back on her kin and crew, without a word she walked for the hatch.

Moments later she was swimming the ice cold sea, she'd tapped into her ShifterSelf? and took the shape of a blind seal with an added bit of echo-location. This ensured she was not ensnared by the mesmerizing powers of the TympanicMedusa , the only thing she could sense was the Queen Venther's song of madness coming from this entrance to the SulcusGyrusCaves. Her iron will held steady against its insanity.

Githseme nearly lost it when the back of a tentacle brushed past her but the echo of Wen's cries rooted her. She'd pull through this.

Only when Githseme broke surface did she resume her human form. She pulled herself out, wet, slick and once again draped in her coat of UltraBlack, with her SharkSaber in hand. She was in a cyclopean chamber filled with the ruins of a lost civilization.

"Githseme Tyar, welcome. It's good to see you." called a sweet voice from the edge of the chamber. It belonged to a delecate Mer whose dark eyes held a frightening intelligence.

The old pirate scowled and marched towards her "EvadneSpiral, swimming into these accursed caves is one thing, leaving my kin and faking my death is another but lining the way with damnable TympanicMedusa? This is one VentherNight prank gone too far."

Though grizzled Githseme was anything but weak. She towered above the Mer in full fury.

"I know how you feel abut them and I'm truly sorry but they need to be there. I meant no disrespect."

Githseme snorted and looped her SharkSaber onto the harness on her back. "Fine."

"I've read your entries in the lexicon by the way, they'll get our message out perfectly. You sold yourself short when you said you weren't a woman of letters."

"Thank you deary." Githseme huffed.

"Come, we need to speak with the others." Evadne flipped and dove into a pool behind her.

Githseme grumbled and stepped into the pool. "PhoqueVin better be here and he better have the BlackOctopusRum he owes me." With that she shifted back into a seal form and followed.
