On one hand these caves are filled with riches; treasures from some long forgotten Mer civilization. You find the right trinket and QueenMyriada would bid a fortune for it.
On the other hand only NasheFitzagua, the real NasheFitzagua mind you, and AvaKordite have ever returned from the Sulcus Gyrus Caves. The caves are a labyrinth whose walls move. During one of Ava's stays on the Orca we discussed the matter over tea; Apparently these caves are living things. Most who go in them are swallowed by the AbyssalDeep.
I think I'll stick to piracy for my fortunes, dearies, it's safer.

Nashe discussed xir excursion into the caves with me once..they try to isolate you into a vent tunnel that drags you deep, to a deadly pressure and cold. You have to have a good sense of where you're going and be fast like a Mer in order to survive for long. Xir echo-sense is well trained and xie scouted the cave inlets for weeks before entering.
Xie was working on a knotcraft map of the caves long ago and it is a mess of a thing. Nashe never saw any treasure, but xie swears xie felt the echo-shape of a large chamber before the pressure became too much to bear and xie had to escape.
