Front Page Selkie

Initially a coastal people, the Selkies were also once warm-blooded and strictly air-breathing as well. But their time in DeepCourt has changed them. They developed a WaterBreathingAdaptation (Githseme tells me that it's actually a reverse DryAdapt via their limited ShifterSelf? but honestly I think it's the same difference). Their blood still runs warm, but something more than their layers of seal fat are keeping them warm in the depths of the Zarine, I just don't know what.

Their government is somewhat haphazard but effective. KingProteus rules with the aid of the semi-anonymous OrpheneClasp. They are reknowned for their bards and their storytellers, although the former is of less interest to the younger set, as evidenced by the few numbers who still practice the ancient SelkieBraid.

Comments, addenda, rumors, chicanery

The Rending has certainly taught the Selkies suspicion, and that suspicion has made them masters of their own guile. The King's aids and protectors do not even name themselves for worry they will be removed from service, somehow. Selkies mix with others easily but do not trust easily, and for that I cannot blame them.

True enough Holloa, we've learned our lesson in trust.

Half of the stories we tell ourselves are outright lies. Not out of maliciousness mind, but as tests to sharpen our wits against deception.
