Front Page WaterBreathingAdaptation

There are multiple methods of adapting a surface creature to breathing water, the best of which are high sorcery or relics.

The most common, however, is the ingestion of an artificial fungus cultivated by lower magics. It infects the lungs quickly and soon obligates the user to breathe water or suffer a burning, asthmatic response. The adaptation can last for weeks, and doctors can administer specific treatment to render it shorter.

Comments, disputes, footnotes, addenda:

I hear tell that AvaKordite has been developing some newfangled contraption for those who cannot stand the fungus.

Good on her, might even help fund it if we cross paths again.

The Ambassador has been known to make use of a PerbaricHelm when making brief visits to the DeepCourt, to avoid the need for WaterBreathingAdaptation. Aside from its baroque smithy-meets-distillery appearance, the quality of speech and sound suffers due to the constant bubbling and the ringing effect of the copper diaphragms.

For quality of communication, I would have advised using the WindowOfAudience in the XerophyllicGarden?, or a parapneumatic voice connection, but actual Court presence is required for issues in which official precedence governs.

I took the adaptation for a time. Uncomfortable, but the opportunities it created! Never again though. Sitting through the period where the fungus dies in your lungs and then all the green coughing ... no. I can do without.
