The tradition's stuck, with new braids coping up all the time. Granted it's not the most accurate of histories but we're concerned less with facts and more with unity. When we sing of the past we do so to keep our kin together in the present.
Now there's been rumors that all Selkie braids, summed together, spell out a great magic. Or, if you pick apart our lovely shanties, you'll find some sort of secret meaning or hidden language. That does sound grand dearies, but I assure you this is simply not the case.
