Front Page Phoecenni

We are a coastal, semi-amphibious population of merpeople, able to breathe water indefinitely and air for an average of four hours unassisted. Our hands and feet are webbed, and the webbing retracts slightly when in dry air. Phoecenni throats are gilled, and we have secondary eyelids for sight underwater. In the air we have to shift our speech away from the clicks and long low tones that travel well in water; we're famous for our embarrassing accents. As a species we are adapted to warm coastal waters and not great, cold depths.

Phoecenni do not have a native cultural concept of separate genders, something which mixing with other races via trade and even marriage has not budged particularly much. Phoecenni you meet will prefer the pronouns xie and xir, the common title Mixter, and will use other neutral terms.

Comments, disputes, footnotes, addenda:

I once heard a choir of Phoecenni singing a canticle. Didn't understand a word but the beauty of their music touched my jaded old heart.
