Front Page JanusCoin

Janus coins are linked to the VentherNight. They're MoonSilverPlatinum doubloons with two faces stamped on either side. They're impossible to forge, dearies, for whoever holds them sees their own face on the coin.

Legend has it that flipping a Janus coin and letting it strike the ground will cause an extra, non Janus coin, to appear. You can do this until you have a king's ransom, as long as it's your smiling face that lands before you; And it will land before you for a hundred, maybe a thousand tosses.

However, the other side has your death mask. If you ever see your death mask you'll be dragged down to meet the terrible masters of the AbyssalDeep.

Of course, this is just a myth, dearies, nothing to be afraid of.

No need to worry about an old pirate's tale.

I'm not sure where the rumor about Janus coin flipping came from, but I suspect it was shortly after the unexplained death of the LadyHarmony Agatha's son, the late LordHarmony Sebastian. He'd been known to be enamored of the coins, and had quite the collection.

In reality, their usefulness trebled with the RepeningOfTheDoors?. Being MoonSilverPlatinum, they are very easy for a Warden to key to a Door. The downside is that they will behave erratically on the VentherNight, but that is something that must simply be tolerated.

I have seven coins like this. They are a great boon to those of us who cannot navigate the Stair on our own.

I was much obliged to DoctorWintertop for filling in the details of the legend of Janus, the two-faced god of boundaries, of endings and beginnings. It is interesting to me how much of the myths of Erde are now circulating so widely among us. Perhaps there is some subtle connection that predated the era of open commerce.

I have yet to own one of these, and don't think that I shall. It is too late in my life to start a whole new field of interest when I have so much left to do here. Besides that, I hear the Bluefins are starting to confiscate them whenever they're found, and LadyKeys has started doing the same without any input from LadyPrecedent.

Beware, I say, of a WardenOfTheGrandStair? bearing JanusCoin. Thus began the ReopeningOfTheDoors, and all know what regrettable events ensued. The Wardens themselves have personally committed despicable acts. Despite, well, commerce and all that.
